It all started from a very early age. Armed with a pencil and whatever I could draw on (usually an old roll of wallpaper) I’d sit for hours dreaming up new He-Man and Garbage Pail Kid characters. This is where my love for all things design started.
I went on to graduate in Graphic Design at Newcastle College. After graduating I set up Dashin’ Blue Design, even as a young pup I won some big contracts including Scottish & Newcastle Breweries Millennium celebration flyers, posters and tickets.
I was then head hunted by Saks Hair & Beauty, who asked me to join their team and produce designs for the 70 salons they had across the UK. This was a great learning curve, as I learned to deal with all aspects of the design business.
My next step was to work for a design company called the Media Factory, where I became highly skilled when it came to checking film (bleed, crop marks, CMYK, etc). After working for a year I caught the travel bug and made it my goal to reach Legoland in Denmark which I achieved passing through Asia and Oz along the way!
On returning to the UK I was made Creative Director of Distinctive Publishing, one of the largest publishing houses in the North of England. I headed up a team of five designers and two web developers, we produced all the Chamber of Commerce material from Southampton up to Edinburgh and had several lifestyle magazine titles.
I have been freelancing for over 7 years and provide a worldwide design service for clients from far a field as Australia, America and the Middle East. My latest project was designing the packaging and promotional material for celebrity Pixie Lott’s range of beauty brushes.
I have 2 young children which are my pride and joy. They have taught me to view the world through child eyes once again, which I believe to be a huge advantage in this business.
